NHS logoNational Honor Society is an organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.



Students who meet the scholarship criteria are invited to submit information for membership consideration in the spring of their junior year or fall of their senior year. Click on the selection process link for more information.

Announcements and Volunteering Opportunities

  • Attention JUNIORS: National Honor Society Packets will be going out in March.  To be considered for membership juniors must have a cumulative GPA of 90.0 and 20 hours of community service by March 1.  Please check our NHS website or see one of the advisors if you have any questions. Click here for a Hours Record Sheet.

  • Our next meeting is March 7/8 during session 1. 

  • NHS offers free tutoring during the school day.  Click here for a tutoring form. 

  • Community Caregivers is looking for student volunteers. You can volunteer individually or as a small group, you can sign up for a one time event or long term. Please contact Diane Cameron at 518-456-2898 or check out their website: http://www.communitycaregivers.org/

  • The Whitney M Young Health Services is in need of volunteers. Please see Ms. Petroff for more details. You can also contact Tahara Wiles at 518-465-4772. Their website is http://www.wmyhealth.org/.

  • We are in need of tutors in most subject areas. This is a great way to earn community service hours. You do not have to be a member to tutor. Stop by room 305 for a form or send us an email: nhs@guilderlandschools.org

  • All members need to sign off that they have read and understand the Board of Education Policy on Student Organizations, 5210-R (pdf).   

  • Students with questions should speak with one of the advisors, Ms. Petroff /Ms. Davis, directly during advisory in room 6 or activity period in room 305/room 6.
