This past spring, property owners in the Town of Guilderland received notices from the Assessor’s Office showing the new assessments of their properties. The revised assessment was based on the market value of individual properties as determined by recent sale prices of similar properties within the town. As a result of the reassessment, the school district used projected assessment totals to calculate an estimated school tax rate for the 2005-06 school year. At the time of the budget vote in May, the district estimated a tax rate of $18.5464 per thousand. However, the final assessment total for the town yielded an even lower final school tax rate, $18.3527 per thousand, than our original estimate.
