A
glimpse
of
Guilderland's
success
How do Guilderland students compare to
students from similar schools across New York State when it
comes to their performance on standardized tests? Where is
student performance strongest and where does it need to
improve? These and other questions are answered in the
annual School Report Card data, compiled by the State
Education Department for each of the more than 4,000 public
schools across the state and released each spring.
Guilderland's
most current Report Card, released in May 2007, covers the
2005-06 school year. The
following data is from the 2006 New York State School Report
Card:
-
On all state measures
in reading, writing and mathematics for elementary and
middle school students, Guilderland students score above
the competency standard and more than three quarters of
the students achieve mastery level.
-
In 2006, 94% of
Guilderland students graduated with a Regents diploma –
one of the highest rates in the Capital District.
-
More than 93% of Guilderland
students indicate plans to go on to higher education
after high school graduation.
-
74% of Guilderland
students now take the SAT with reported mean scores of
562 math, 526 writing, and 543 critical reading. This is
compared with average scores of 510 math, 483 writing,
and 493 critical reading for students statewide.
-
Increasing numbers of
Guilderland students earn college credit while still in
high school through participation in the district’s
numerous advanced placement courses.
