alerted to essential facts they need to know about HIV/AIDS:
How it is transmitted and it’s effects on the body, the

reminder of his drunken state that night and the
consequences suffered from it. Students sensitive to DWI
fatalities may find this story powerful.

anorexia nervosa. The movie features Nancy Gold, who battled

video shows the very severe consequences of anorexia and how
the disease affects every member of the family.
Love in the Dark Ages
– This video makes a strong case for sexual abstinence among
teens who, according to recent studies, have a higher STD
rate than any other age group. The issue of sexual
responsibility quickly becomes the focus of the relationship
between two talented high school students after one
contracts an STD (Chlamydia) from the other. The
complications following give the viewer a clearer and more
realistic perspective on the role of sex and responsibility
in a relationship.
Real People: Suicide and
Depression – One of the most urgent messages of real
people is suicide and depression. Talking about suicide can
help remove the stigma surrounding it and instead see it as
a public health problem. Research tells us that when kids
are able to talk about their suicidal feelings the risk of
them ending their life decreases dramatically. Kids need to
hear from their parents, school personnel and friends that
suicide is not an option and that help is available.

center discusses feelings and coping with having an STD.
Abstinence is strongly stresses as being the only foolproof
method of protecting oneself.
Story of a Bulimic –
This 27 minute video looks at one girl’s real life battle
with bulimia. First she notes mom’s concern over her own
appearance, and then she develops her own attitudes. A
reasonable outlook declines into an unrealistic one in high
school and college. After the death of a friend, control
finally begins with counseling. At the end we meet the
actual girl.
Teenage Father – A
34 minute video recreating situations of three teen couples
who are unexpectedly pregnant. The stories are about
problems faced by each couple, the alternatives they are
faced with, and the decisions that are made. Each story is
presented from both the teen father’s point of view and that
of his pregnant girlfriend.
The Miracle of Life
– This 55 minute NOVA presentation traces the beginning of
life from development of the egg and sperm, their journey in
the body, fertilization and development of a human being.
The video scientifically shows actual penetration of the egg

development of the fetus. It shows a fetus in utero in
various stages of development. The live human birth has been
edited out of the video shown to middle school students.
The Truth About Drugs
