Guilderland Central School District Transportation

What to do if the bus is late

A past district study indicated that most buses are late for five reasons:

  • Traffic delays

  • Weather delays/road conditions

  • Delays caused by waiting for children

  • Delays caused by substitute drivers unfamiliar with a route

  • Delays caused by mechanical problems

Please do not call the Transportation Office unless the bus is more than 10 minutes late.

In order to shorten transportation time for students and make sure buses keep on schedule, students should wait outside at the bus stop five minutes before their bus is supposed to arrive. A one-minute delay at 20 stops adds 20 minutes onto a bus ride!

On days of inclement weather, parents and students should listen to the radio or watch the TV for delay announcements. Click here for a complete listing of stations carrying Guilderland school closings and delays. Please do not call the bus garage for information about school closings, since this ties up phone lines and can prevent emergency calls from coming in.

Note: In order to stay on schedule, drivers CANNOT return to pick up students who have missed their bus.
