Facilities Committee

At its meeting on January 23, 2007, the Guilderland Board of Education unanimously approved the following resolution:

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education establish a Facilities Committee for the purpose of presenting to the Board of Education a facilities plan with an emphasis on, but not limited to, the needs of the five elementary schools, district wide instructional technology, and to maximize the use of the district’s $1.78 million EXCEL allocation.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Facilities Committee be comprised of the following members: Board of Education Representatives (2), Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent for Business, Elementary Principal, Chief Technology Specialist, Mathematics & Science Supervisor, Maintenance Mechanic, Guilderland Office Workers’ Association Representative, Guilderland Teachers’ Association Representatives (3), Parent-Teacher Association and Community Representatives (3)

From the Board resolution, membership on the Facilities Committee was solicited by the superintendent in a letter, dated February 1, 2007, which was sent to various employee and constituent groups. The make-up of the 16-person committee was as follows:

In addition, the firm of Collins + Scoville Architects, P.C. worked closely with the Facilities Committee throughout the process. Daniel Woodside, AIA and Thomas Kenney as the managing principal and project architect, respectively, attended the planning sessions and were responsible for individual on-site inspections at each school in the district as well as the district office, maintenance and transportation facilities. Throughout our discussions, their role was to assist and guide the Facilities Committee in planning the scope of the proposed project which would eventually be presented to the Board of Education for further review.

Dr. Elizabeth McNamara (a Guilderland High School graduate) representing Core BTS, Inc. served as the technology consultant for the project. In conjunction with the architects, Dr. McNamara met extensively with Nancy Andress, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction; Joseph Laurenzo, the district’s Chief Technology Specialist; and the group of Tech Liaison representatives as well as to conduct on-site visits at each building to examine available cabling, hardware and equipment, and to provide guidance and support in developing further details included in the scope of this proposed project.
