Guilderland schools offers students food choices that
adhere to the nutritional guidelines set forth by the New York State Child
Nutrition Program and the New York State Education Department.
These guidelines outline the number of servings of fruits and vegetables,
protein, starches and milk offered during lunch and breakfast. The
guidelines also state that fewer than 30% of the calories in the weekly
lunch menu can come from fat.
The district also participates in the "Choose Sensibly" program at all school levels. Initiated by the New York State School Food Service Association, the program is designed to help students make healthier food decisions by using clips, stickers and pins to identify and highlight healthier snack choices.
