Personnel Assistant II

Nov. 3, 2017— PERSONNEL ASSISTANT II

This is a competitive title of Albany County Civil Service and the appointment will be provisional pending the successful pass and placement on the ACCS test for this title. The candidate for this position must meet the eligibility requirements for taking the test as outlined in Minimum Qualification (below)

PAYROLL EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

Payroll/Human Resources Personnel Assistant

The Assistant is responsible for transactions of both the Business Office and Human Resources Office. This person will do responsible work in the processing of employee personnel transactions. The work is varied depending upon the assignment of the individual employee. The work is performed under the general direction of a higher-level administrator with leeway for the exercising of independent judgment in dealing with both routine and new tasks. This person will process information to facilitate the preparation of payroll. They may process information pertaining to the various insurance programs including its membership, contact authorizations for services and retiree benefits. Other duties may include but are not limited to: the calculation and processing of bi-monthly substitute report, calculation of initial salary and contractual provisions for payroll purposes; prepares adjustments in salary; calculates annual salary increases for all employees in all title categories for 11 bargaining units for payroll purposes; calculates retirement benefits: resolves unusual or difficult personnel or payroll issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: OPEN-COMPETITIVE: EITHER:
A. Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or related field and one (1) year of full-time experience in human resources or financial functions, including benefits, payroll, worker’s compensation, insurance, training and/or recruitment; OR,
B. Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in business administration or related field and three (3) years of experience as defined in (A) above; OR,
C. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience as defined in (A) above.


PROMOTIONAL: Twenty-four (24) months of permanent competitive class status as a Personnel Assistant I or Benefits Coordinator I.

Minimum starting salary: $ 38,000. The salary for current employees of the Guilderland Central School District will be determined based on current salary, position and years of service.
