Spaghetti dinner fundraiser to support the Rodino family
Oct. 14, 2011—The Guilderland High School Girls’
Volleyball Booster Club is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner fundraiser to
support the Rodino family on Saturday, October 22nd from 4 to 7 p.m. at the
McKownville United Methodist Church at 1565 Western Avenue.
Since August 2008, the Rodino family has been bravely battling Huntington’s
disease, a genetic terminal illness that affects the nerve cells of the
brain. It was then that the Rodinos’ eight-year-old daughter, Rachel, was
diagnosed with the aggressive juvenile form of the disease. Shortly after,
Rick, her father, was diagnosed with the adult form of the disease. On April
7, 2010, Rachel’s courageous fight against Huntington’s disease ended.
Earlier this year, Anthony, the Rodinos’ 19-year-old son, was also
identified as having the disease’s gene. Gianna, the Rodinos’ eldest
daughter, is a senior at Guilderland High School and co-captain of the
Guilderland Girls’ Varsity Volleyball Team.
Presale tickets are available at the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce or can
be purchased from any GHS Lady Dutch Volleyball player: $7 per person for
adults and $5 per person for children 10 and under. Tickets will also be
available at the door for $9 per person. Donations will also be accepted on
behalf of the family. Checks should be made payable to Guilderland Girls’
Volleyball Booster Club and mailed to Guilderland High School, c/o Erin
McNamara, 8 School Road, Guilderland Center, NY 12085. All proceeds will go
directly to the Rodino family.
