Recycling Extravaganza a great success
Nov. 4, 2011—The Guilderland Central School District's second annual Recycling Extravaganza, held October 29 at Farnsworth Middle School, was an amazing success thanks to the participation of numerous students, staff, parents, and community groups.
Throughout the course of six hours, the district collected:
• Almost a full roll-off of paper (that's a 40-foot container!) with a total paper weight of 5960 pounds
• One and a half tractor-trailer loads of electronics
• Approximately 200 pairs of sneakers to send to Nike to up-cycle
• Four roll-off's of metals; 25,460 pounds including tin and low grade metals
In addition, through the event the district donated 64 bikes,
three scooters, one snow saucer, one snow sled, and one wagon to a
local non-profit for restoration and distribution.
The event generated $1,872.60 for Guilderland Schools and created a great
deal of goodwill in the community. Thank you to all who attended!
