Recycling Extravaganza, FMS Garage Sale and Go Green Day a great success

May 15, 2013—On Saturday, April 27, Farnsworth Middle School played host to three exciting community events aimed at environmental education, awareness, and recycling. Guilderland Central School District's Recycling Extravaganza, the FMS Garage Sale, and Go Green Day 2013 were all incredibly successful thanks to the participation of numerous students, staff, parents, and community groups.

Throughout the course of six hours:

More than 560 cars visited the Recycling Extravaganza drop off location. As a result, the event diverted over 27,000 tons of materials with the collection streams, provided clothing and books to our local community in need, created innumerable new business and social connections with others and developed a wonderful sense of community.

More than 1,000 visitors attended the Go Green event and nearly 40 exhibitors and vendors were on hand sharing information on "going green" in a variety of ways: solar energy; local foods; home care services; crafting; health and wellbeing, local farms and gardening.

The FMS Garage Sale raised more than $2000 for the FMS Butterfly House and Organic Garden.

Thank you again to everyone who helped plan the events, as well as to all of the community members who stopped by throughout the day. We look forward to seeing you at future events!
