Repair work on middle school athletic fields to begin immediately

March 25, 2014—Earlier today, New York State Department of Civil Service Commissioner Jerry Boone met with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marie Wiles to explain the process for presenting a claim to the State for reimbursement to repair the recently damaged athletic fields at Farnsworth Middle School. The meeting followed a visit by the Commissioner to the fields, located in the front of FMS, which were completely destroyed by vehicles parked on the land during a March 22 state civil service exam administered at the school.

While repairs to the fields are scheduled to begin immediately, due to the extent of the damage, the four acres of land affected will not be used through at least the spring. The athletic fields serve primarily as lacrosse and soccer fields as well as outside space for physical education classes. Until the land is once again usable, modified sports practices and games, as well as physical education classes, will be relocated to either the back or side fields at the middle school.
