Guilderland students selected by audition to participate in regional music event

Guilderland students perform at regional music festival

April 22, 2015—Thirty Guilderland middle school and high school students were among the more than 300 talented musicians from 13 Suburban Council schools who participated in the Suburban Scholastic Council Music Festival at Shenendehowa High School on Saturday, April 18.

Students were selected by audition to participate in the event. The Guilderland students who performed in the symphony orchestra were Tracy Wei, flute; Isabella Wu, clarinet; Albert Zhong, bassoon; Jonathan Lasselle and Glenn Trechel, horn; Hugh Smith, tuba; Prithwish Dan, percussion; Amy Chen, Nicole Chiang, Alan Wang, and Meriel Zhao, violin. The symphony performed under the direction of cellist Kirstin Peltz.

The concert band included Farnsworth middle school students Laura Waltz and Kenny Yamashita, clarinet; Sean Collins and James Gu, bassoon; Alessandro Amore, alto sax; Ryan Avery and Aidan Fusco, trumpet; Dan Bemis, horn; Kathryn Giordano and Kevin Zuchowski, baritone. The concert band performed under the direction of Dr. Keith Kaiser of Ithaca College.

Vocalists selected to sing with the concert choir included Jillian Creighton, Sean Donnelly, Olivia Fanshawe, Aria Grisham, Colin Dane Ingraham, Camille Lajoie, Nina Tuxbury, and Jonathan Van Wormer. The choir was directed by Sophia Miller, the assistant conductor of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City.
Joe Giordano was selected to play the trombone in the festival’s high school jazz ensemble, which was led by noted jazz educator Dr. Mark Filsinger from Buffalo State.
