Important details for district parents:
Student information updates

Sept. 12, 2014—The following letter was sent from Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Dr. Demian Singleton to all district parents via the SchoolTool Parent and Student Portal on Friday, September 12, 2014.

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s),

As we embark on a new school year, the Guilderland Central School District wants to bring to your attention a few important updates and changes in procedures. In recent years we have maintained a goal of becoming more efficient, able to reduce costs, and evermore “green” by reducing the amount of paper consumed and limiting expenditures for postage. Each of the following updates will help us to sustain our commitment to this effort.

Individual Student Reports (ISRs): The ISRs provide exam results for students in grades 3-8 taking part in the New York State Testing Program, as required under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). The reports explain the meaning of individual student scores in relation to performance levels set by the New York State Education Department. ISRs also suggest resources available to parents to help assess a child's strengths and needs, improve school performance, and support children’s education. Beginning in 2014, the District will no longer be mailing home to parents hard copies of these reports. Parents are now able to access ISRs using the SchoolTool Parent and Student Portal. Instructions to do so can be viewed on the SchoolTool Parent and Student Portal home page.

Student Health Information: Each year the Guilderland Central School District requests of all parents their most current and accurate contact information, as well as critical medical information pertaining to their child(ren). Such information is extremely important for district officials and employees who are committed to providing a safe and responsive school environment for all students. Our ability to appropriately respond to student medical concerns and to maintain timely communications with parents is dependent on this verification process. Parents at all levels are now able to review and submit to the District updates to health information on file for their child(ren). Step-by-step directions to complete this critical verification process can be found at the district's Student Contact and Medical Information Verification/Update web page. Please complete this verification process no later than September 26, 2014.

Student Report Cards: Beginning in the 2014-15 school year, the Guilderland Central School District will be transitioning to a paperless report card system for all students, grades K-12. Learn more Report cards will no longer be sent or mailed home; instead, parents will be able to access and review their child’s report card online via the district’s SchoolTool Parent and Student Portal.

If, for any reason, you are not able to access the SchoolTool Parent and Student portal please do not hesitate seek assistance by contacting Kim Ten Eyck or Castilia Commisso at the GCSD District Office (456-6200). We appreciate your support of our efforts to reduce costs and “go green.”
