Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Night set for Nov. 12 at GHS

Nov. 4, 2014—On Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, Guilderland High School will play host to an important community event: Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Night. Presented by the Addictions Care Center of Albany, this free event is the first in a series of customized prevention workshops/seminars for students and parents in the Capital District.

Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Night will take place from 6 to 8:00 p.m. in the GHS LGI and is open to both residents and non-residents of the school district. The event will focus on prescription drug awareness and the dangers associated with the abuse of opiate pain medications as a gateway to heroin addiction. The program is appropriate for middle and high school age students.

Throughout the night, attendees will hear from three guest speakers including a clinician speaking about the signs and symptoms of drug use/abuse, the parent of an addict, and a young person currently in recovery from drug addiction. The evening will conclude with an audience question and answer period.

While the formal program begins at 6 p.m., door will open at 5:30 p.m. for dinner. Pizza, salad and beverages will be served free of charge to those in attendance. Participants will also have the chance to win a 7” 8GB tablet.

For more information about the event, please call (518) 465-5829.
