Full adherence to new school security procedures begins Nov. 30
Nov. 23, 2015—Keeping students safe is the highest priority at GCSD. Since the start of the school year, Guilderland has been using a new security system, E-Z Lobby, throughout its schools. The past two months have been used to educate parents and visitors to the new security process, as well as make sure staff were trained and appropriate internal procedures were developed and refined. Beginning Nov. 30, there will be a full adherence to the new security measures, and parents/visitors must have a valid ID in order to enter school buildings. Please be aware of the following changes you will encounter when visiting a Guilderland school:
All exterior doors are locked and will remain so through the end of the school day. All visitors must enter through the main entrance of school buildings, and will be buzzed in through a first set of vestibule doors. Visitors requesting entry into the school through the second set of locked vestibule doors will be required to present a valid driver’s license, government-issued ID or passport in order to enter. E-Z Lobby uses the ID information – first name, last name and date of birth – to identify potential sex-offender registry matches.
Once an individual’s ID has been scanned and is in the security system, visitors may enter school buildings without the need to be scanned again. Those visiting a district school for the first time since the security implementation should arrive early to allow for the time necessary to complete the new procedure. For certain events, teachers may request parents and visitors to RSVP in advance.
When parents and visitors enter the school, office personnel will print a badge for them that must be visibly worn at all times while in the building. Parents and visitors must check out with the school receptionist upon leaving the building.
We are instituting these procedures to protect the safety of our students and school staff. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during this process. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s building principal or the district office.
