Board of Education fills vacancy

Nov. 15, 2017—At the regular meeting of the Board of Education on Nov. 14, 2017, the Guilderland Board of Education appointed Mr. Allan Simpson to fill a vacancy on the Board for the seat previously held by Christopher McManus, who recently resigned his post. New York State law allows boards to fill such vacancies by appointment until the next regular election in May.

The appointment will be for a term of approximately six months, from Nov. 14, 2017 through May 15, 2018.

 A total of six community members expressed an interest in filling the vacancy. After reviewing their letters of interest, the Board interviewed all candidates during a special meeting on Nov.8, 2017. In addition to Simpson, the candidates included Benjamin Goes, Sean Maguire, Pamela McCall, Eli Newell, and Heather Wendling.

Mr. Simpson is currently the Director of Accounting Operations at the New York State Insurance Fund. His background includes more than 30 years of accounting experience. Mr. Simpson previously served on the Guilderland Central School Board from May 2010 until June 2017.
He and his wife, Renate have been residents of Guilderland for 18 years. They have two children. Tyler graduated from Guilderland High School in 2012 and daughter Ashley graduated in 2016.

BOE seeks candidates to fill board vacancy; special meeting to interview candidates to be held Nov. 8

Nov. 6, 2017—A special meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8 in the high school LGI.

The GCSD Board of Education is seeking to fill a vacancy on the Board. (For more information, please see below) The meeting, which is open to the public, is being held to interview interested candidates. There are six candidates vying for the open position:

Benjamin Goes
Sean Maguire
Pamela McCall
Eli Newell
Allan Simpson
Heather Wendling

Questions have been prepared by the Board and the meeting will be moderated by GHS senior Matthew Creighton.

The meeting will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Channel 16 within the Town of Guilderland, as well as live streamed via the district’s Board of Education homepage.

Oct. 25, 2017—The Guilderland Central School District Board of Education is presently seeking to fill a vacancy on the Board for the seat previously held by Christopher McManus, who recently resigned his seat. New York State law allows school boards to fill such vacancies by appointment until the next regular election in May.

The appointment will be for a term of approximately six months, from Nov. 14, 2017 through May 15, 2018. If the appointed person wishes to complete the remainder of Mr. McManus’s three-year term, he or she would need to file a petition and run for election in May along with any other interested candidates.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of the school district for at least one year prior to the appointment.

The Board invites community members to submit a letter of interest and résumé, as well as any other documentation that may be helpful in the selection process for review
no later than Nov. 3, 2017.

Letters and documentation should be mailed to: District Clerk Linda Livingston, Guilderland Central School District, P.O. Box 18, 8 School Road, Guilderland Center, NY 12085. Candidates may also submit a letter of interest to
livingstonl@guilderlandschools.net.

All interested candidates will be interviewed for the vacant seat. The interview process will take place Nov. 8, beginning at 6 p.m. as part of a special meeting of the Board of Education. This meeting will be open to the public. (
