Parent Volunteers Needed

Membership Committee

Chairperson:  

What:  Volunteers needed to staff tables at Open Houses, to recruit parents and teachers as members of PTA.  Membership expires each September and need to be renewed each year.  Members are solicited through newsletters and at Open Houses.  Membership cards are distributed at Open House or via your student.

When:  At Open Houses in September and family activities.

Where:  Farnsworth Middle School


Website Committee

Chairperson:  

What:  Volunteers are needed to send chairperson community links, calendar events and parent resources via e-mail or backpack.

When:  Throughout the year.

Where:  From your home


Roadrunner

Chairperson:  

What:  Volunteers are needed to serve refreshments, including hot chocolate, to runners at this after school function at the end of October.

When:  After school in the afternoon in October

Where:  Farnsworth Middle School


Fundraising Committee

Chairpersons:  

What:  The major PTA fundraiser is held each fall.  Help is needed to distribute flyers, sort and compile orders, and distribute product sold.

When:  Fall

Where:  Farnsworth Middle School


6th Grade Family Fun Night

Chairperson:  A 6th Grade Parent

What:  PTA hosts an evening school party for all sixth graders and their families.  Volunteers are needed to help plan, develop, organize and man this event.  Typically the event includes games, music, food, and recreational activities.

When:  Evening at the end of October

Where:  Farnsworth Middle School


Box Tops for Education

Chairperson:  

What:  2-3 Parents are needed to assist in bundling box tops that are collected at school.  This can be done at home and takes only a few hours per month.

When:  At night during the school year

Where:  At your home


Hospitality Committee

What:  This committee is responsible for organizing refreshments and staff at various school and PTA events (Open House and 5th Grade Parents Night)

When:  During evenings in September, October and May

Where:  Farnsworth Middle School


Harvest Family Fun Night

Chairperson:           

What: This event is totally dependent on the number of volunteers and a chair.  The event is whatever the committee decides, typically it includes music, games, food, DJ, and recreational activities

When: Evening in November

Where:  Farnsworth Middle School


American Education Week

Staff Rep:  TBA

What:  Help is needed in November to welcome visitors to the school and distribute student schedules and maps.

When:  3 day, 1 for each grade, during the school day in November

Where:  Farnsworth Middle School


Wellness Day

Staff Rep: Amy Tubbs – 456-6010 tubbsa@guilderlandschools.org

What: This committee sponsors a daylong event for 6th and 7th graders to help foster respect between students/parents and students/staff.  The committee works with FMS faculty and staff to develop the program.

When: During the school day in March

Where: Farnsworth Middle School


Science, Math, and Technology Seminars

What: Volunteers are needed to work with the Staff and Administration to organize these 8th Grade Boys and Girls' events which include speakers, refreshments and sometimes traveling.

When: Committee meets at 8 AM on school days.  The event takes place in March, the same day as Wellness Day

Where:  2 Venues outside of FMS


Staff Appreciation Luncheon

Chair Person: 

What: Volunteers are needed to plan and host this event designed to show FMS PTA’s appreciation to the FMS staff for their work.  Food has been the traditional means of expression for showing our thanks in the past.

When: During the school day – late spring

Where:  Farnsworth Middle School


Junior Honor Society Induction

Staff Reps:  Carol Kelly and Maria Jasenski – 456-6010

What: Volunteers are needed to organize and serve refreshments following the induction ceremony in the spring.

When: Evening in June

Where: Farnsworth Middle School


8th Grade Moving-Up Day

Staff Rep: TBA

What: 8-10 Volunteers are needed to organize and serve refreshments for the reception following the moving-up ceremony at the end of the school year.

When: After school in the evening at the end of June

Where:  Guilderland High School


Baking Committee / General Volunteers

What: Bakers and volunteers are needed periodically throughout the school year to send in goodies and/or provide drinks for various school and/or PTA functions.  In addition, volunteers are needed at special events held in the evening or on weekends.

When: During the school day at various times throughout the school year; and/or in the evenings at various times throughout the school year

Where:  Farnsworth Middle School and at your home


Enrichment Committee

What: Volunteers are needed to help with the enrichment program throughout the school year.

When: Committee meets at 8 AM during the school day.
