How do you learn best?
Ours
is a community of people with diverse learning styles.
We do many things in school to recognize
diversity in our culture, but let’s not forget to
acknowledge that students and teachers learn in
different ways. Each
of us has a preferred way of learning, and it’s
helpful for us to be aware of our individual learning
styles.
Studies have shown that teachers tend to teach
in the style that they themselves use to process
information. For
example, if I am a visual learner, I will probably
choose to illustrate my lessons with mind maps,
pictures, and other graphics.
However, my students might be more auditory or
kinesthetic in their approach, and I would need to
take that into account when planning for my
instruction.
In Peter Kline’s The Everyday Genius, he
suggests that, by changing the learning environment
and the way information is presented, we can get
substantially better results than are possible with
traditional education.

of learner you are please contact Susan Rothchild for
