Minutes:  October 15, 2004

Present:  Judy Carnavos, Charlie Gifford, Michelle Crisafulli, Lauren Linkowski,  Nicole Davey, Heather Bryer.

  1. Meeting dates are set through January.  Dates beyond then will be decided in November.  November 5  @ 8am MOCR,  December 10 @ 8am MOCR,  January 14 @ 8am  Computer lab.
  1. 25 FMS students received a $30 gift package of school supplies this summer.  Thank you to the counselors and social workers for helping to identify students in need.
  1. 80 faculty members have taken advantage of the wall charts we purchased for classroom use.  There are some left for those teachers who still would like one and for those who need an additional chart.  Please see Charlie in room 354 (don't forget to sign your name when you take one.)  There are still some A-pads left.  Teachers must pay $6 (see Pat Spawn).   If any teaching assistants desire one, they should see Amy Tubbs.
  1. The GCRTC is offering a 15 hour program on study skills.  It is a NYSUT ETP course and is being taught by Susan LaFond from GHS.  The dates are Saturdays, March 5, 18 and April 9 from 8:30-2 pm at Sand Creek MS.
  1. Two teachers have volunteered their 6th graders to work with Lisa Mahoney and the Parent Paper Posse.  This group of parents works with students to organize/clean out their lockers, binders, etc.
  1. We are seeking parent volunteers to help set up our Study Skills display in the Learning Center.  If any staff knows of great resources for study skills, please let us know.  We hope to add to our display this year.
  1. Charlie Gifford will be e-mailing quick, useful Study Skills tips 2x/month to all staff.  If anyone has clever ideas to share, drop an e-mail or hard copy of your tip to Charlie Gifford (Hiawatha mailbox).
  1. We will be developing an application process for teachers to apply for small sums of money (approx. $15) who can justify a purchase as study skills related.  You will hear more within the next month.

Next meeting is Friday 11/5 at 8 am in MOCR.

All are welcome.
