GES seeks volunteers to lead Fun Fridays mini-classes

January 09, 2012Attention GES parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends! Once again, Guilderland Elementary School is proud to offer our annual FUN FRIDAYS Mini Classes. This year classes will be held for children in grades 2 - 5. Fun Fridays are a great opportunity for GES kids to learn something new that would not otherwise be available to them during a typical school day. Classes can be anything from arts & crafts to zoology – A to Z and more.

Fun Fridays will be held on March 2, 9 & 16 from 2 to 3:15 p.m. at the school for all interested students in grades 2 - 5.

The success of the program depends on the volunteers who offer to share their talents with our children. Please take a moment to think about how YOU can get involved and contribute to the success of the 2012 Fun Fridays program. Do you have a special talent or hobby you could share with a small group of children? Would you consider co-teaching a class with a friend? There are many ways we could use your help; you may even wish to assist with a class or help with childcare. Childcare will be available for preschool & K children. If your school age child is not in a Fun Fridays class you can still choose to lead a class as childcare will be available for those students as well.

This is a great opportunity for you to work with the children of GES. Also, we have discovered that we are often unaware of the many human resources that are right within our own community. If you know of a neighbor, grandparent or organization that would be interested in sharing a hobby with our children, please contact them or let us know. We are always looking for new ideas!

If you are interested in volunteering for Fun Fridays, please complete an application form (PDF) and return it to school no later than Wednesday, January 18, 2012.  We would like to have a listing of all available classes to hand out to the children by the beginning of February. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Diana Ackner at 869-0293 or via e-mail at acknerd@guilderlandschools.org.

In the past we have found this to be an extremely rewarding community-building opportunity, bringing together staff members, parents, community members & students in a unique and fun learning experience. We truly hope you will seriously consider taking part in this program to broaden the experiences of our GES children.

Many thanks!
The Fun Fridays Committee
