College Accounting - HVCC
This course is a MUST for the college bound student
interested in business OR finance. First semester is
Principles of Accounting integrated with Excel spreadsheet
instruction. Second semester is the HVCC Financial
Accounting course. Students earn 4 college credits. This
course also fulfills the third or fourth unit of Math for
GHS students.

Career and Financial Management
This course provides students with the opportunity to learn
about the features of our economy, explore a variety of
careers, learn the skills and competencies needed for
success in the workplace and to begin to become financially
literate. This course is required for all Vo-Tec students.

College Keyboarding
Students attain proper keyboarding and formatting techniques
using the computer by building on existing skills and
developing reasonable speed and accuracy. As a result of
taking this course, students will possess the skills
necessary to complete homework and research papers. A
portfolio is prepared for use as a reference manual. With
the emphasis on technology today, keyboarding is a must for
the student who has little keyboarding background. (Students
may opt for Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade.)

Keyboarding and Communications
This course emphasizes accuracy with speed on the computer
using the “touch” method, ability to proofread, and
application of correct grammar. Formatting applications such
as business letters, memos, reports, and tables are
emphasized. In addition, a portfolio is developed for use as
a reference manual. All business students and students
wishing to develop stronger communications skills are urged
to take this course.

Personal Finance
Fundamentals of economics are taught so that students can
make rational economic choices as citizens. Topics include:
employment laws and issues, banking, budgeting, investing,
insurance, credit, bankruptcy and personal finance. This
course will fulfill the Economics graduation requirement.

eCommerce
Be in charge of inputting, updating and monitoring the new
GHS Sports + Events Web site: ScoresUp.com/Guilderland. We
sell banner advertisements to make a profit. You will learn
everything you want to know about running a business:
starting a business, marketing, management, advertising and
balancing finances. You can earn 3 transferable college
credits from SCCC.

Marketing -- SCCC
Owning and/or running a business is a real world option.
This course is recommended for those students planning a
career in Business Administration, Marketing-Retailing, or
owning/operating a business. Emphasis is on strategy,
decision making and current trends in marketing.

Corporate Law -- SCCC
Topics include Legal Ethics, Criminal Law, Civil Law, Court
Systems, Trial Procedures, Problems in Society, Contract
Law, Legal Aspects of Starting a Business, and Employment
Law. You can earn 3 transferable college credits from SCCC
by taking this course with Personal Law as a prerequisite.

Personal Law
It is recommended that this course be taken along with
Corporate Law to earn 1 credit. Topics include Consumer Law,
Employment Protection and Equal Opportunity Laws, Legal
Aspects of Marriage, Divorce, Renting a Home, Buying a Home
and Insurance Protection, Credit Protection Laws, Checks and
Negotiable Instruments, Retirement and Health Care Issues,
Wills and Intestacy.

Accounting I
This course provides an overview of accounting systems and
processes with emphasis on the principles and procedures of
double-entry accounting. One unit deals with the use of
Excel for computerized entry. This course may be the third
unit of a 3-unit Math sequence.

Work Seminar/Experience
Topics include goal setting and decision making, work
relationships, preparing for a job, problem solving on the
job, and other related topics especially related to the job
setting of the students in the course. Students will receive
1 unit of credit for 300 hours of work.

Career Exploration Internship Program (CEIP)**
**STUDENTS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION TO JOB
SITES**
Open to all students in all academic areas, this is an
ELECTIVE with a PURPOSE! Students who have an interest in a
particular career can be placed with a Mentor in that field.
The CEIP coordinator assists the student in finding an
appropriate placement. Think of how much you can learn by
working with a person who actually does the kind of work you
“think” you want to do!! Students can get EARLY RELEASE to
go to job sites. Approximately four HOURS PER WEEK at the
job location plus a classroom meeting once a week will
enable a student to earn 1/2 unit of elective credit. This
course satisfies the State School-to-Work initiative and
Career Development Standard (CDOS) and can be substituted
for Introduction to Occupations B.

Computerized Career Planning
Do you know what you want to do with the rest of your life?
This course will introduce you to many ways of exploring the
career of your dreams. You will also learn to use
spreadsheets, databases, charts, the Internet and the
software program Careerware/Choices to research and compare
schools, jobs, businesses, etc.

Microsoft Office --- SCCC or HVCC
Computer skills are imperative in the 21st Century. This
course builds on existing skills and progresses to
proficiency in multiple applications including word
processing, database, spreadsheets, graphing, presentations,
and use of the Internet.

Sports Marketing
A fun course where you will learn the basic functions of
marketing and how those functions are applied to sports and
entertainment. Topics include: advertising, negotiations,
public relations, laws and contracts, promotions and more.
This course is project oriented with a lot of
computer/internet use.
