Kite

A robin egg blue diamond floats through the sky.

Melting the edges between air and cloud.

Fluttering softly, gliding over the sun.

Creating dancing shadows among the faces of smiling children.

Ribbons of cotton dyed pink and yellow nod to and fro.

As hefty winds blow the string as they please.

Small hands, sore and red from coarse hemp, tightly grip the line.

Girls’ skirts and boys’ caps are untamed.

Excited as the kite is, by the invisible forces.

So powerful is the wind.

Yet so gentle and refreshing.

It can be unseen and unheard.

Yet it moves both the kites and hearts of children.
