Scenario
A
fifth grade teacher can use this activity to introduce the
use of a timeline software program to enhance established
curriculum and to meet the NETS*S.
Identifying
important events in United States history is part of the
established Social Studies curriculum in fifth grade and is
also part of the review for the New York State Social
Studies test. Using
the Timeliner program, individuals or small groups of
students can research historical events that are provided by
the teacher and/or that interest them. Dates and events can be entered and organized in the Timeliner
program. Students
can experiment with different timeline formats and select
one that best displays their research.
Pictures can be added to give visual representations
of the dates. Students
can also make a prediction of an event and date in the
future that is based on history and/or their knowledge of
current issues in our country.
Students can self-evaluate their project using the
project rubric. Timelines
can be printed out, attached and rolled onto paper towel
rolls for easy storage, viewing and sharing.
