Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading,
to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs,
is good for him. ~ Richard McKenna ~

New Picture Book Collection in the Library

With recent purchases the library will now have over 50 picture books in the collection.  This assortment of picture books will be shelved as a separate collection in the library. Many of the books purchased have won the Caldecott or Caldecott Honor Awards for their illustrations.  The books have been selected to meet the needs of various classes and will hopefully be used in all curricular areas.  A database of the available books will be available shortly. Suggestions for further purchases are encouraged.

New Audio Books

in the Library!

The library has also begun purchasing audio books for patrons to use.  One of the companies we purchase materials through has begun to put books on self-contained audio book units called Playaways.  Students and teachers will be able to borrow these from the library in the near future.  The units have stop and start and speaking speed features and only require the use of an individual’s headphones.

The Playaways we have in so far include the classics:

Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights

Collected stories of Mark Twain

Shakespeare’s Macbeth

Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet

Shakespeare’s Greatest Hit

Including: Romeo and Juliet, Twelth Night,

Macbeth, and A Midsummer’s Night Dream

Shakespeare’s Hamlet

Sean Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens

Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter

Jane Austen’s Emma

and contemporary literature including:

Alfred Martino’s Pinned

Shannon Hale’s The Goose Girl

Christopher Paolini’s Eragon and Eldest
