Information on Curriculum Changes

What Changes will be occurring over the next several years to the math program?

Over the past few years, the state has made major modifications to the K-12 mathematics curriculum.  In the 2005-2006 school year, Guilderland made the changes to the K-8 math curriculums to be in compliance with the new curriculums and new state exams.

The High School was not immediate in making these changes due to the fact that the new exams were not being implemented until the 2007-2008 school year.  Over the past two years, the math department at GHS and FMS has been hard at work creating the new courses that will be implemented in September 2007. The first two new courses in the High School program will be Integrated Algebra which will replace Math A and Integrated Algebra 2 Year - Year 1 which will replace Math A 2 Year - 1.  (Please see the Math Course Page for course descriptions)

The graduation requirements in mathematics will change a little with the introductions of these new curricula.  Students will have to pass the Integrated Algebra Regents exam and take at least three math courses in order to receive a Regents Diploma.  Students seeking the Advanced Regents diploma will have to pass three Regents exams in Integrated Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 & Trigonometry.

In 2008-2009 and the subsequent years, the math department will be adding the next courses in the sequence and this will happen until all our courses correlate to the new math standards and the introduction of the new state assessments.
