According to the National Association for
College Admission Counseling (NACAC), virtually all U.S. colleges
and universities have admissions pages on their web sites,
and 91 percent of them provide applications online.
More than 70 percent of today's students use the internet to
research and apply to school.
The following se tips will help
the online application process run smoothly:
Always proof your application for
spelling, grammar and content. Many schools do not
allow an application to be modified once it is
submitted. Always print a copy for your records
before you click "send."
Look for an e-mail confirmation that
your application has been received. If you're not
contacted within 48 hours, phone the school to verify
receipt. Whenever possible, provide a professional
e-mail address that you use frequently, for example
"smiths@guilderland.com".
Do not wait until the last minute to
submit your application. You'll avoid the stress
caused by any unforeseen computer-related difficulties.
Know the college's policy
for supplying supporting documentation, such as letters
of recommendation. Often, everything must be
submitted by the deadline. Simply receiving your
portion of the application may not meet a school's
requirements.
Be aware of specific
deadlines. Many schools require online
applications and supporting materials to be submitted by
a specific date AND time.
