Meet the guidance counselors

 

 

Amy Arena, school counselor

Received a B.A. in Psychology/ Elementary Education from Nazareth College of Rochester; a M.ED. in Counseling from Penn State (Go Lions!).

Amy has worked as a school counselor in Ft. Myers, Florida, as well as a few area high schools. She enjoys playing competitive tennis, reading and working on her house.

Lynne Baumgartner, school counselor

Earned a B.A. degree in psychology at John Carroll University; a Masters degree in Community Psychology and Guidance Counseling from Sage Graduate School..

Lynne has worked as an admissions counselor at Excelsior College and as a Guidance Counselor at a junior/senior high school in MA. She enjoys camping, reading, watching the Red Sox and spending time with her Husband and son.

Tom Dvorscak, school counselor

Earned a B.S. degree in Marketing Management at Syracuse University; Masters degree from the College of St. Rose. Tom worked for seven years in the business world in management and sales prior to his Masters degree.

He was a school counselor at Tamarac High School prior to becoming a Guilderland High School counselor in August 1995. Tom and his wife keep very busy with the activities of their two sons and daughter.

Ann Fairbank, school counselor

Graduated from SUNY Albany with a B.A. in English; taught English at Guilderland High School for several years. After completing a Masters in Counseling, she returned to Guilderland High School and has been a school counselor for 13 years.

Ann and her husband enjoy traveling, collecting Americana, gardening, sports and their two children, who are G.H.S. graduates.

Candace Galarneau, school counselor

Earned a B.A. in Psychology while attending the University of Tampa, Florida; returned to New York for graduate work in School Counseling at Sage Graduate School.

Outside of working, Candace enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her husband and her English Bulldog, Spencer!

Amy Knapp, school counselor

A 1985 SUNY Albany graduate with a B.A. in Psychology; a 1989 SUNY Plattsburgh graduate with a M.S.ED. and C.A.S. in School Counseling.

Before coming to Guilderland in 1989, Amy worked in an elementary/junior high school in Saranac, NY and a junior high school in Saratoga Springs.

Amy enjoys reading, gardening and hiking. She resides in Guilderland with her husband and Golden Retriever.

Karen Murphy, school counselor (currently on leave)

Almost a lifelong resident of Schenectady, she earned her B.A. from SUNY Oneonta, and received a master's degree in school counseling from the College of St. Rose.

Karen enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband and family, and with her two Boston Terriers, Phoebe and June Bug. She is a "Big Sister" for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and has been with her "Little Sister" Linda since June 1996. Karen also enjoys gardening, swimming and exercising.

Rene Sheehan, school counselor

Earned an undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology from SUNY Geneseo; a Master's degree in School Counseling at Syracuse University (Go Orangemen!).

Rene' worked in the Parents' Office at Syracuse University after graduation, then joined the Counseling Department at Guilderland High School and has worked at G.H.S. for the last 17 years.

She and her husband enjoy traveling, gardening and spending time with their two sons.
