Guilderland
is a residential suburb of Albany, NY, with a
heterogeneous population of approximately 30,000. The
people of our community have placed a high priority on
the education of their children and have given the
school system the highest level of support possible.
Guilderland
High School is a four-year, co-educational,
comprehensive public school with an enrollment of 2000
students. The teaching staff numbers
150.
Beginning in the school year 1997-98, Guilderland High
School has adopted BLOCK SCHEDULING. Classes
meet for 85 minutes every other day in a 4-day
rotation with the exception of science courses which
meet 3 out of the 4 days. All Freshmen, Sophomores and
Juniors are required to carry a minimum of 6 courses
plus physical education each year. Seniors are
required to carry a minimum of 5 courses plus physical
education each year. New York State students are
required to pass one unit of Fine Arts and one
half-unit of Health. Guilderland High School offers
these courses only at the college preparatory level.
