GHS senior selected for GRAMMY National Jazz Band
Dec. 15, 2016—Joe Giordano, a Guilderland High School senior, is among 32 students from across the U.S. selected for the 2017 Grammy Camp – Jazz Session.
Joe will travel to Los Angeles to join the 31 other students from 14 different states, which includes brass musicians, pianists, guitarists, drummers and vocalists. Joe is set to play 1st trombone.
Under the direction of renowned educators from
prestigious music schools, the students will record an album at Capitol
Studios in Hollywood, perform at a number of GRAMMY Week events and attend
the 59th annual
GRAMMY Awards on Feb. 12 as guests of The Recording Academy. They are also slated to perform at the GRAMMY Celebration after-party.
Joe has been playing the trombone since the fourth grade, and began jazz the same year.
“I'm very excited,” he said. “I knew some people who participated in the program last year and they had a great time. I have a few friends this year who got in and I'm really excited to see them again. I'm also looking forward to working with Justin DiCioccio [of the Manhattan School of Music], the director of the band.”
Next fall, Joe plans to attend college for Jazz Studies, although he’s yet to decide where.
Congratulations to Joe for this extraordinary recognition
of his hard work and dedication!
