June 24, 2017—The 410 members of the Guilderland High School Class of 2017 and their families gathered at The State University of New York at Albany’s SEFCU Arena on Saturday, June 24 for their commencement ceremony.

Speakers at the ceremony included Thomas Lutsic, GHS principal; Dr. Marie Wiles, superintendent; and Bernard Bott, GHS school librarian.  New this year, a number of student speakers, Taylor Carman, Sagar Kumar and Andrew Hines, also took the stage.

Senior class advisors Karen Dayton and Colette Gallagher announced the roll call, while Dr. Wiles and Board of Education President Christine Hayes presented students with their diplomas.

The audience was treated to a number of musical interludes, including a performance by seniors from the Chamber Choir who sang the National Anthem; Marissa Scotti, accompanied by Meyer Nam, sang "Laurie's Song"  from Aaron Copland's The Tender Land; and the GHS Jazz Ensemble performed "Down Home Cookin,'" in addition to the traditional Pomp & Circumstance.

It was a beautiful day! Congratulations to this year's graduates and best of luck in the future!
