Five Guilderland High School seniors named 2018 National Merit Scholarship Finalists

February 28, 2018—Guilderland High School seniors Thomas Jambunathan, Noah Cohen-Greenberg, Chiyuan Zhung, Llewellyn Searing, and Michelle Prunier pose for a picture with their National Merit Scholarship certificatesFive Guilderland High School seniors learned in early February that they have been named finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Competition.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.

Guilderland High School seniors Noah Cohen-Greenberg, Thomas Jambunathan, Michelle Prunier, Llewellyn Searing, and Chiyuan Zhung met the rigorous requirements for finalist standing, placing them in a group representing approximately one percent of U.S. high school seniors who entered.

The selection of some 7,400 Merit Scholarship winners from a group of more than 15,000 finalists is now in progress. Winners will be contacted beginning in March.
