GHS students go to Yale University

large group of high school students visit YaleGuilderland High School sent 36 students to attend a Model United Nations program at Yale University in January.

Roughly 1800 students attended the conference from all over the world. Prior to the event, students are assigned different countries and assigned to United Nations committees. The committees worked to solve issues around such topics as terrorism on the African continent, security in the Syrian Civil War, surveillance around the world, Chinese expansionism, and the role of women in peace-building.

GHS students who participated in the program were: Grace Aniolek, Mary Aniolek, Aman Avvaru, Maya Banks, Olivia Blanchard, Emily Bolognino, Taylor Bronson, Isabella Bruno, Emily Callender, Zoe Copeland, Emily Frey, Mahsum Jafri, Ally Jurczynski, Chris Ladopoulos, Brianna Leach, Nicholas Ledermann, Ali Mckenna, Kathryn Moriarty, Cara Mortati, Michael Neal, Isabella Nezaj, Lauren O'Connor, Nishika Pabba, Evanna Peng, Michelle Prunier, Maggie Robinson, Llewellyn Searing, Sidharth Shamshabad, Isabella Smith, John Sokaris, Sonal Swain, Adham Yousef, Layla Yousef, Meriel Zhao, and Karen Zhu.

Also on the trip were the club's advisors, Social Studies teacher Derick Kopff and English teacher Kristen Harrington, as well as PE teacher and chaperone Jessica Santabarbara.

Congratulations to junior Christopher Ladopoulos who won an Honorable Mention award for his work on the Joint Crisis Council: Ukrainian Crisis. Senior Layla Yousef took the Outstanding Delegate award on the Climate Change Crisis Council. Sophomore Emily Frey took the top award of Best Delegate on her committee, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Regional Body.
