Registration

Registration will be held in the Guilderland High School Cafeteria. For district residents, registration will be held on June 30, 2008 from 8 to 11:45 a.m.  For both district and non-district residents, registration will be held on June 30, 2008 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Registration much be done in person.

Non-District Registration. Non-district students wishing to enroll in Guilderland Summer School must present the following at the time of registration:

  • A completed Non-District Resident Registration form (PDF), signed by the appropriate school officials.

  • A copy of the most recent report card. (Please note that only students with an average of 50 or above are eligible for summer school.)

Student tuition and fees

All non-residents must pay tuition of $250 per course taken. All tuition must be paid at the time of registration. Checks should be made out to "Guilderland Summer School." No tuition will be returned after the first day of classes.

Attendance policy

Students enrolled in summer school courses are allowed NO absences. Sports, scouting and church camps as well family vacations are not excused absences. Students absent more than 3 days from a course may be removed and not receive credit in that course.

Students should plan on attending classes each day, arriving on time and being an active participant in each class. The guardian of the student is to place a call to (518) 861 - 8591,ext. 1205 the morning of an absence. Each class will incorporate a participation grade which will be based upon daily, positive classroom participation.

Math Integrated Algebra - The first two thirds of the Integrated Algebra 1.5 year course

Integrated Algebra (2 yr 1) - First half of a two year Integrated Algebra course

Math A (2yr -2) - Second half of a two year Math A course

Math AB -The end of Math A and beginning of Math B (students take Math A Regents)

Math B - The last two thirds of the Math B 1.5 year course

Math B (2yr -1) - First half of a two year Math B course

Science

Students must have met LABORATORY REQUIREMENTS during the year. No labs are offered during the summer.

Biology, Core Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science

Social Studies Global Studies 9,Global Studies 10, U.S. History, Economics*, Public Policy*
English English 9, English 10, English 11, College Writing*, Public Speaking*
Physical Education One half and one year credits available.
Health* Meets the one-half credit requirement for graduation.
Keyboarding*

Learning the keyboard using a computer includes some formatting and word processing as well as speed and accuracy development.

Driver Education ONLY with advanced registration in May. Tuition of $331 is required at the time of acceptance and will not be returned after June 13. 2008. For more information on Driver Education, click here.


* Important: Courses having an asterisk (*) may be taken as a new one-half credit course. These are the ONLY courses in which a student may enroll for the first time.

Lab work

All students taking a laboratory science must have a written statement certifying completion of the laboratory requirement.  No student may take the course for the first time during the summer.

Earth Science students take note

If you have taken the practical exam and wish to use your previous score to apply to the August Regents, you must bring verification of the score in order for it to be counted.  This must be done prior to the date of the exam.

Class load/size

Students may take two subjects. Students may enroll in three subjects with special permission from the Summer School Principal. Students may only register for a full credit course if they have already taken the course during the regular school year and have attained a minimum average of 50.

Note: Classes with enrollment of less than 12 students may not run.

Passing grades

A grade of 70 is considered passing in a summer school course. A grade of 65 is considered a passing grade on a Regents examination for Regents credit.

Dress code

Students are expected to dress in a safe and non-provocative manner--as during the regular school year.

NO EARLY EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN!

All students enrolled in a Regents class where the Regents is offered in August must meet the course requirements and take the Regents to receive course credit.

Walk-in Regents

Students who are registered and attend Guilderland High School during the school year may register for and take the August Regents exam(s), if offered.  Registration occurs at the Summer School Office between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays until July 14, 2008.  Positive identification must also be presented at registration and when the exam is taken.

Library/librarian

Library facilities and a librarian will be available during the Summer School hours for teacher-assigned work.

School nurse 

      A licensed nurse is on duty from 7:30 a.m. until 12:35 p.m., July 1 through August 12.

Smoking 

      Smoking is strictly forbidden at any time during Summer School.  Students who choose to smoke on campus may be dismissed from Summer School.
