Fifth grade students step back in time;
Produce radio show from
1941
On Tuesday, June 9, the fifth grade
students at Lynnwood Elementary School took an exciting trip
back in time...to 1941! Working with special guest and
"radio show" performer Gary Ferris, the students acted out a
dramatic WWII home front radio broadcast, promoted products
of the era via scripted radio commercials, and even revived
the classic Abbott and Costello piece, "Who's on First?" for
the audience's enjoyment. In addition, Mr. Ferris
entertained the crowd with a few period songs, such as
Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree, Minnie the Moocher,
When the Lights Go On Again, Long Ago and Far Away
(sung in German), and Thanks for the Memories.
The interactive 1941 Radio Show event was the culmination of
the students' studies surrounding the WWII era. Throughout
the past few weeks, the students had been studying the 1939
to 1942 time period, writing historical fiction pieces, and
reading the book All the Way Home. To see a recap of
the recent Radio Show event, please click on the "u"
button at the bottom of the Windows Media player box.

Meet Matt “The Lynnwood
Dog”
Matt is an eight-month
old puppy that is in training to become a seeing-eye dog to
help someone that is blind. Mrs. Keller, a teacher at
Lynnwood, and her daughter Stephanie, a ninth grader at GHS,
are raising Matt and have had him since he was four months
old. When he is eighteen months old, Matt will go to the
Guiding Eyes facility in Yorktown Heights, NY for special
training.
Matt is learning how to
be a good member of a community and to have good manners.
He also loves to show off all that he has learned in his
puppy classes and what he has practiced for homework. If
you see Matt in the halls of Lynnwood, feel free to say hi
to him, he loves attention!
