WES introduces upgrades to building security
May 2, 2011—Over the
spring recess, Westmere joined other elementary schools in the district to have
new hardware installed to improve building security. This equipment includes
a new video camera and intercom attached to the exterior front door which
will allow us to more closely monitor people coming into the school
environment. We will be joining many other schools around the Capital
District and the entire country in adopting systems such as this to help
ensure the safety of our students.
Once all of the equipment has been installed and people trained in its use,
we will be leaving our front door locked throughout the school day. If you
come to the school you will have to ring the doorbell and wait to be
recognized by one of the people monitoring the system and have the door
unlocked remotely, or be “buzzed in”. If the person operating the system
does not recognize you immediately you will be asked to let us know who you
are and why you are coming to the school.
This will be a bit of a change for us at WES. Our community is used
to having open access to the school through an unlocked door. It is our hope
that our community will still enjoy the same access but with just an
additional step that will help us protect our students. Please contact the
main office if you have any questions or concerns.
