Butterfly Station Coordinator


The Farnsworth Middle School Butterfly station has been housed at FMS for over 15 years and collaborates with the Pine Bush Discovery Center.  Students and Teachers work to prepare a summer program (Butterfly Station) that provides tours to community members, workshops that explain the butterfly cycle and its importance to our local habitats.  Community members are given a tour of the butterfly house, native plant areas, a museum set up by students and the metamorphosis room where the butterflies are reared.  In addition to the Butterfly Garden Coordinator, the program requires teacher(s) to provide instruction and supervision to the student docents/counselors. 

The program runs for 5 weeks, starting July 6, 2020.

The following positions are vacant:   Support teacher(s) needed for Weeks #1,3,5

The summer positions are responsible for the following:

  • Daily set up of butterfly house and instructional areas  
  • Supervision of students in all instructional areas
  • Provide training to student docents/camp counselors
  • Care of butterflies and their larvae
  • Support the opening and closing of the Butterfly station

Salary:  Butterfly Garden teachers earn a bi-weekly stipend.  Details provided upon inquiry
