Courses are open to all persons in the Capital District Region age 16 and over unless otherwise stated.  You should consult your physician before participating in any dance or exercise program.   Enrollment priority is given to Guilderland Central School District residents.  There are NO PHONE REGISTRATIONS.  To register:  you can register online at https://guilderlandrevtrak.net or FOR EACH REGISTRANT and EACH COURSE, fill out the enclosed registration form, enclose correct fee, make separate checks FOR EACH COURSE payable to Guilderland CSD and send to:

CONFIRMATION of registration will NOT be sent to registrants.  Please check our website for class confirmation at https://www.guilderlandschools.org/academics/continuing-education/. Only classes will be listed, NOT  individual registrants.

REFUND POLICY

Your continuing education program is a self-sustaining program with all expenses paid out of registration fees.  It is necessary to cancel a class if enrollment does not support the cost of the course and checks will be returned.  No refunds, therefore may be given after classes have started.  If a registrant cancels prior to the start of the first class, a refund, less a $10 cancellation fee, will be given.  No refunds will be given for one or two-night courses after registration closes.  Please be advised that refunds can take three to four weeks.  No school credit is given for any course.

CLASS TONIGHT?

Whenever the district schools are closed due to inclement weather or for other emergency reasons, classes will not meet that night.  Announcements concerning closing of evening adult programs will be broadcast over radio stations:  WGY, WROW, WTRY.  In addition, this information can be found on the district website and the Public Access Channel 16.

SENIOR CITIZEN POLICY (Age 60 and over)

Seniors residing in the Guilderland CSD are permitted to enroll in most Continuing Education classes at a 50% discount.  Senior citizens should X the “YES” box next to “Senior Citizen” on the registration form. Senior citizens WILL be required to pay the regular registration fee for courses if the fees are needed to maintain self sufficiency.

BASKET WEAVING FOR ALL LEVELS

Basket makers of all levels are welcome.  This is a good class if you’re new to basket weaving, need a refresher course if it’s been a while or just want a reason to weave again.  New students will complete 4 baskets while learning the basics of traditional basket weaving.  Basket making materials will be supplied by the instructor for an additional fee.  Materials fee for new students will be $40 payable to the instructor at the first session.  Time permitting additional baskets can be made on a cost per basket basis.  Returning weavers will continue with baskets of their choice. Materials fee for returning students will be determined at the first session.  The following items will be needed at the first session: tub for soaking reeds (at least 12” by 12” by 6” deep), old bath towel, pencil, ruler, cloth tape measure, utility knife, awl or ice pick, kitchen scissors, heavy duty spring type clothes pins, 4” cable ties, and spray bottle.

BEGINNER BASICS

This class provides an introduction to the basic poses, asanas, of yoga. Excellent for beginners with little or no yoga experience.  The focus will be on alignment and breath as you move your way to a more supple, strengthened You!  Atmosphere is light-hearted and supportive.  Please bring a notebook to class.

BUILD A BETTER BACK

Are you sick and tired of that chronic lower back pain? Are you ready to improve your mobility and function? This class is designed for individuals of all ages and spine conditions, even post-surgery. My life’s work revolves around teaching patients how to manage acute and chronic back injuries. The fundamental key to increasing their movement, function, and quality of life is strengthening the core muscles. Join me for this 2 session program to learn these fundamental exercises and learn strategies for long term management. CHAIR YOGA

Yoga stretching with the aide of a chair allows almost anyone to join in to a gentle form of movement. Poses are done seated in, or holding onto a chair for support. Yoga works the joints and muscles to increase strength, flexibility, circulation and balance. This class goes beyond typical exercises in that it encourages quiet reflection, proper breathing and better posture.

GPD R.A.D. (RAPE AGRESSION DEFENSE)

Be prepared for any situation by taking a R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) class. This unique class is designed to provide women with skills that will increase safety and confidence on a daily basis. Whether you have limited or increased exposure to potentially dangerous situations, it is always important to be prepared. Taught by experienced certified instructors of the Guilderland Police Department, students will learn how to access and defend themselves when faced with an unsafe encounter. The course includes lecture, discussion and self defense techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities. If you have ever considered taking a self defense class, now is the time to do it. Gain new skills, friends and the confidence to protect yourself in any situation.

NOTARY PUBLIC REVIEW WORKSHOP

This workshop prepares you for the NYS Notary Public test and will provide you with a comprehensive view of the notary public office. Confusing laws,  concepts, and procedures will be clearly explained and clarified. Examples will be provided to illuminate situations that a notary public officer is likely encounter. Topics include avoiding conflicts of interest, maintaining professional ethics, charging proper fees, handling special situations, when to defer an attorney, and minimizing legal liability. This workshop is a must for notary public candidates to become fully aware of the authority, duties, and responsibilities involved in this office. All materials will be provided including website links to NYS Dept of State licensing information, booklets, and forms. Also featured is a 80 question practice exam which attempts to emulate the actual NYS mandatory exam. $5 material fee due at beginning of class payable to the instructor.

ZENTANGLE EXPLORATION

The Zentangle Method is an easy to learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. This 4 week class will begin with the origins of Zentangle and the classic white tile. Each week we will explore further aspects of the Zentangle in greater depth, including the creation of strings, advanced shading techniques, using white pens on black tiles, and culminating Zendala tiles, 6” tiles with a beautiful radiating design. ZENTANGLE SPINNER

Zentangle HQ has devised the Tangle Spinner. This tangled masterpiece will both display a variety of your favorite tangles and act as a fun way to choose what tangle to use next when creating with the Zentangle method. This project includes a custom made template designed by Zentangle HQ and the mechanical parts to make it come alive. When you leave this class, you will at least have a partially tangled spinner, and have everything you need to tangle the spinner to its completion as well as the spinner.
