FMS eighth grade students visit GHS

On Monday, May 22, eighth grade students from Farnsworth Middle School visited Guilderland High School. The purpose of the visit was to introduce the incoming freshmen to GHS so they could become acclimated before the start of the 2023-24 school year. FMS students toured the building and listened to current GHS students speak about their experiences at the high school.

When the FMS students arrived they were welcomed with lots of GHS spirit by the Pep Band and cheerleaders before departing on tours of the building. Led by volunteer students leaders, the small group tours explored the building so FMS students could see where their classes could potentially be located in September. The tour guides also shared their tips and tricks for getting around the building and spoke about the transition from middle to high school.

Following the building tours, FMS students gathered in the auditorium for a performance by the Chamber Choir and to listen to speakers, including GHS Principal Piscitelli, a teacher panel and school counselors. In addition to hearing advice from teachers and staff, FMS students were provided with the student perspective. GHS seniors Kelly Nhan, Troy Berschwinger and Alejandro Castillo gave their best recommendations for managing academics and other responsibilities.

With so many opportunities to get involved, students were encouraged to join a club or a sport, attend events – even start a new club. By keeping with the theme for the day, “make it happen,” the soon-to-be high school students are sure to make their four years at GHS count.
