The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Engagement Committee has been holding a series of “fireside chats” at the Guilderland Public Library, to provide Guilderland community members with the opportunity to speak to members of the committee in an informal setting. To help promote these events, a group of eighth grade Farnsworth Middle School students in Mrs. Romano’s Accelerated Studio in Art class volunteered to create artwork to be used for flyers.
Students were asked to visually illustrate what DEI means to them. Working individually or collaboratively with other students in the class, the artwork was completed in less than three days. Thank you to the following students for supporting the work of the DEI committee with their artistic talents:
Monica Bauer
Elliana Famodu
Caitlin Johnson
Akshara Karthigan
Keeley Laplante
Angela Li
Riyaa Ramamathan
Lindsey Rivera
Markos Royall
Keya Sharma
Cassandra Weiss
Michelle Zisa
The flyers will be used to inform the Guilderland school community and residents about the upcoming fireside chats, where they will have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss personal experiences and learn more about the work of the GCSD DEI committee. You can learn more about the complete schedule of fireside chats as well as the breadth of DEI work that has been completed this school year on the district website.
