Hiawatha 6A

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to FMS, Hiawatha House, and our team for the 2018-2019 school year! We are looking forward to working with you this coming school year.

Parents, we would appreciate it if you would write a letter, or send an e-mail telling us about your child. After all, you know him/her better than anyone else.  We are very interested in learning about his/her strengths, weaknesses, interests and any areas of concern (s)he, or you may have.

Students, we want to hear from you, too (a required homework assignment already!) Write a letter, or send an e-mail about yourself as well. Tell us what you’ve been doing, how you feel about starting at FMS, and anything else you would like us to know. To help us recognize you on the first day of school, please include a picture of yourself.  Please mail or e-mail your letters to us. You can also bring them on the first day of school. Our e-mail addresses are listed below:

clumdolann@guilderlandschools.net

margosianj@guilderlandschools.net

huestisc@guilderlandschools.net

Any books that your child reads over the summer may be recorded and will count as books read in the sixth grade. What a great way to start the school year. Reading over the summer also gives children a head start on Mrs. Clum Dolan’s 10,000 page challenge!

To help you come to school prepared in the fall we have enclosed a list of required school supplies. Please make sure to clearly label each item with the student’s full name, homeroom number and/or teacher. Below is a list of items we would like students to keep in their binder at all times. The rest of the supplies may be kept in their locker until they are needed.

  • (red) Science folder
  • (yellow) Math folder
  • (blue) Language Arts folder
  • (green) social studies folder
  • (black) parent folder
  • loose leaf paper

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are happy to welcome your child to our team for the 2018-2019 school year.  We hope your child will find the sixth grade year both exciting and challenging.  We have created a list of supplies to help make your sale watching and shopping easier.  Please take the time to look at the list on the reverse side of this letter.  Organization is an important step towards success in the classroom.

A book bag or knapsack should be used to carry to and from school. It must be a size that can easily be stored in the locker during the day.  It cannot be carried to, or stored, in classes. (Locker dimensions: w 12” x h 34” x d 13.5”)

All students should be prepared to do an assignment on a book they read during the summer.  It can be any age appropriate book and genre. All students have to do is read the book before the first day of school.  Students will also need to know the title, author, plot, and number of pages in the book. Please do not write a summary of the book.  Simply have the aforementioned information with you on the first week of school. This information will be used during the first weeks of school.  Happy reading!

We would also love to know about our incoming class from those who know them best…their parents!  Please feel free to write us a letter about your child. Include information you think is important for us to have. This could include information about learning styles, special interests, talents, and even fears your child may have regarding school. Please send the letters to FMS c/o Ms. Mineau & Mr. Rogotzke.

We look forward to seeing you September 17 at Open House — save the date!!

Sincerely,

Ms. Mineau and Mr. Rogotzke
