Instructional Administrator for Music

Leadership Opportunity

This position includes supervision of staff in the area of music education across the District, including twenty-two teachers in seven buildings.  The administrator serves as an instructional liaison across the District working with principals and key faculty and staff in enhancing musical opportunities for K-12 students and works closely with community music organizations as well as the Guilderland Music Parents and Friends.

The supervisory job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and communicate vision and goals for a music program aligned with district priorities
  • Oversee departmental goal setting and curriculum development based upon the district’s music philosophy
  • Support and promote musical excellence in the Guilderland School District
  • Observe and evaluate music staff
  • Mentor and support staff as needed (i.e. classroom issues, technology concerns, personnel matters, etc)
  • Remain current with research-based practices
  • Evaluate program efficacy based on data (staff needs, class size, participation,etc.)
  • Develop and manage department budget
  • Schedule all concerts, programs, and music events for the District
  • Collaborate with the District’s Communications Specialist to publicize events and celebrate students’ musical successes
  • Collaborate with custodial and maintenance staff to care for facilities and performance venues
  • Communicate with parents, vendors, and school staff regarding all aspects of participation in the music program
  • Attend all meetings and serve as school liaison to the Guilderland Friends of Music

Minimum Qualifications:  New York State Certification:   SAS and/or SBL

Personal Qualifications: 

  • Strong evidence of commitment, energy, and enthusiasm and the physical stamina required by the position
  • Ability to create positive relationships and trust among staff, students and parents
  • Sound judgment and willingness to show initiative and function effectively as a team member
