A message from Dr. Wiles:
Dear GCSD Families,
As the number of days left in the school year goes down, it seems the number of events on our calendars goes up. Field days, concerts and ceremonies fill our days; however, if you can find the time, I encourage Guilderland Central School District community members to attend the final DEI fireside chat on June 8, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Held at the Guilderland Public Library, this forum will provide community members with the opportunity to participate in discussions centered around DEI. In a relaxed, informal setting, residents can ask questions, discuss personal experiences and learn more about the considerable amount of DEI work the district has completed this school year. Weather permitting, this session will be held in the library’s Literary Garden.
A portion of this year’s DEI work was the development of equity action plans for each of the seven GCSD school buildings. You can learn more about them from DEI Director Matthew Pinchinat’s presentation to the board of education at the May 23 meeting. These plans are incredibly important to creating a safe, inclusive learning environment for all students and staff.
Important dates to note
Please note that Farnsworth Middle School has early dismissal at 12:45 p.m. on June 22 & 23, not as indicated on the printed district calendar that was distributed to families in August. In addition, there will be no school for all grades and district and school offices will be closed on Monday, June 19, in observance of the federal holiday Juneteenth.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
