LES June newsletter now available

Hello Lynnwood Families, with the year coming to an end and warmer weather upon us, we’d like to prepare your students for success and wish you all our very best. You’ll see we have some policy updates and other smidgets of useful information.

The Guilderland Central School District has established standard safety rules for our playground areas as follows:

  1. Have fun!
  2. Listen and follow adult directions.
  3. Stay inside playground borders and away from off-limit areas.
  4. Play games only where the teacher allows you to.
  5. Follow play equipment and game rules.
  6. Do not bring toys, pens or pencils onto playground.
  7. Avoid wearing loose jewelry or clothing that has drawstrings.
  8. No flip flops on the playground.  Wear your P.E. sneakers.
  9. Do not pick up or throw dirt, sticks, stones, wood chips or rubber chips.
  10. Do not climb on fences or trees. Do not climb over or outside of railings or on top of tubes or towers.
  11. Respect other people’s space.
  12. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
  13.  Be courteous and be a good sport.

Playground Equipment Rules:

Climbing Equipment– Use one student at a time. Do not sit on top of or hang by the legs from climbing equipment.

Slides– Only go down, one student at a time, feet first.

Slide poles– Only go down one student at a time and make sure no one is below.

Swings– No twisting, jumping from, running under or standing on swings. Hold onto chains with both hands.  When exiting, walk out and around the swings. Avoid the front and back of other students that are swinging.

Tire Swing–  Hang onto chains with both hands.  Do not exit until the swing comes to a complete stop. Avoid touching the connecting point at the top of the chains as it might pinch your fingers.

Revision to Parent Pick-Up at Afternoon Dismissal

In an effort to best supervise our afternoon dismissal we will be making a slight change to the current procedure beginning on Monday, June 10.  All students being picked up will go to the cafeteria at dismissal.  Once students taking the buses have left we will bring students to the outside  area where they will then be dismissed. Parents picking up their child still need to follow the same procedures and sign them out at the main office.  We appreciate your understanding as we strive to ensure student safety at all times.

Nurses Notes

If your student had a physical this school year, make sure to scan and send to the nurses office, you may also fax it to 518-356-3087.

If your student goes outside be sure to think about sun, insect and head protection prior to going outside.

When your student comes back inside be sure to check for ticks

If your student has medication in the health office be sure to pick it up by 6/25 or it will be disposed of according to NYS law.

Lastly, if your student is moving up to middle school, I would just like to say it has been a pleasure caring for this class of fifth graders and I wish them all the best in their future studies.
