A message from Dr. Wiles:
Dear GCSD Families,
I am so pleased to announce that the Guilderland Central School District music department is a recipient of the 2023 Best Communities for Music Education honor. This award celebrates the intrinsic value of music education and recognizes the outstanding efforts of GCSD students and teachers as well as the parents and community members who support and promote music as part of a well-rounded education. Congratulations to all!
School budget vote is Tuesday, May 16
In just a few days, the Guilderland school community will vote on the proposed $119,772,194 budget for the 2023-24 school year. This spending plan preserves all programs, focuses on academics and targets class size reduction at Farnsworth Middle School. In addition to the budget, voters will also consider a separate proposition to purchase school buses and a maintenance vehicle, and elect three members to the board of education. I encourage families to follow the links to learn about the proposed budget and the candidates for GCSD board of education so you feel fully informed to make your decision on Tuesday, May 16. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 9 p.m.; please vote at your home elementary school.
Employees who have reached tenure and retirement milestones recognized
At a ceremony held on May 9, GCSD celebrated faculty and staff who are retiring and those who have been awarded tenure by the board of education. This year, 27 individuals are retiring with more than 600 collective years of service provided to Guilderland students, schools and community. We are so grateful for their contributions. In addition, 23 educators were awarded tenure for demonstrating that they have met high standards for outstanding performance. Watch the full ceremony on the GHS Media YouTube channel. We congratulate all for achieving these meaningful milestones!
Share your vision for the future of Guilderland
The Town of Guilderland is seeking input and perspective from community members to update the Comprehensive Plan, which will help shape the future of Guilderland. Please share your ideas by participating in an online survey; paper copies are available at Guilderland Town Hall. All survey responses are anonymous. The deadline to submit a survey is Monday, May 15.
Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers and mother figures who support, encourage and nurture our students. Enjoy the lovely weather we’re having and have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
