May 17 update: school budget vote on Tuesday; Anti-Hate Rally on May 23; no school on May 24

A message from Dr. Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

As the end of the school year inches closer, there are many events that bring the GCSD community together to support students, their goals and achievements. End of the year concerts, ceremonies and celebrations highlight the diverse talents of all students and unite the school community in pursuit of the district’s mission. Next week, there are several opportunities for the GCSD community to participate in district-wide events, including the annual budget vote and the third annual Anti-Hate Rally at Guilderland High School.

School budget vote is Tuesday, May 21

In a few days, Guilderland residents will head to the polls to vote on the $125,192,817 proposed budget for the 2024-25 school year. This spending plan is a result of the district listening and responding to the school community’s priorities and needs. An online survey conducted in January identified maintaining low class sizes, expanding extracurricular activities and focusing on academics as the top priorities among district stakeholders. For more details about what’s on the ballot – including information on the three additional propositions and the five board of education candidatesvisit the district website, read this year’s budget newsletter or watch the video from the May 6 “Meet the Candidates” night.

The annual school budget and board of education elections will take place on Tuesday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can vote at your home elementary school. Voter registration is required in the Guilderland Central School District; learn more about voter eligibility, absentee ballot applications and early voting here.

GHS student groups to hold third annual Anti-Hate Rally

On Thursday, May 23 at 3 p.m., the Guilderland High School Student Voice Committee will host the third annual Anti-Hate Rally at GHS. A culmination of Unity Week, this event is solely organized, planned and managed by GHS students and will feature activities, food and speeches. Moreover, the event provides students with a platform to further elevate their voices and encourage self-expression. All are welcome to attend.

No school, Friday, May 24

Please note there is no school on Friday, May 24. This is a contingent holiday because the district did not use more than two emergency closure days during the school year. The district offices will be closed as well. We hope all GCSD students, staff and teachers enjoy the extended Memorial Day holiday weekend!

Thank you for your continued support of Guilderland Central School District students and our school community. I hope you have a great weekend.
