May 23 update: 2024-25 budget approved; culture and climate survey; no school Friday, May 24

A message from Dr. Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

On Tuesday, May 21, the Guilderland Central School District community approved the $125,192,817 budget for the 2024-25 school year with a vote of 1,699 (yes) to 648 (no), a 72.39% approval. Residents also approved three additional propositions to purchase gas-powered school buses and maintenance vehicles, to purchase zero-emission electric vehicles and to transfer the Cobblestone Schoolhouse to the Town of Guilderland for $10,000. Tara Molloy-Grocki, Blanca Gonzalez-Parker and Nina Kaplan were elected to fill three seats on the board of education. More detailed information about the budget vote and board elections can be found on the district website.

Thank you to all of the Guilderland residents who voted! The community’s support for our students demonstrates how much a Guilderland education is valued. Your confidence and support is greatly appreciated.

Culture and climate survey

Once students return to school after the extended Memorial Day weekend, the district will launch a culture and climate survey. Students in grades 3-5 and 6-12, staff and families will be asked to participate in this important survey. A positive climate plays a pivotal role in shaping the experiences of everyone within the school community. Stakeholder input is integral to ensure that our schools, and the district as a whole, continue to provide a supportive environment for all. Learn more details about the culture and climate survey and how it will support the district’s mission of making all feel welcome and connected here.

No school, Friday, May 24

Please note there is no school tomorrow, Friday, May 24. This is a contingent holiday because the district did not use more than two emergency closure days during the school year; the district offices will be closed as well. This extra day off gives all GCSD students, staff and teachers an extended Memorial Day holiday weekend! School will resume on Tuesday, May 28.

I wish the Guilderland school community a pleasant and relaxing extended weekend. As we commemorate Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect and honor those who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. Their courage and dedication represents the very best of our nation.

Thank you for your continued support of Guilderland Central School District students and our school community.

Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
