More than 20 compete in FMS 2018 Geography Bee, Parker Wins

Congratulations to Isabela Parker, Farnsworth Middle School’s 2018 Geography Bee champion.

Also congratulations to our second place finisher Arun Venkit, third place finisher Colleen Grimshaw and the rest of the Top 10 finalists: Helena Bristol, Suraj Kadajji, Anya Wendling, Sanari Ismail, Ralf Miller, Kathleen Guo, and Pratham Khare.

On January 9, 23 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students competed in Farnsworth Middle School’s annual Geography Bee. Students who competed first had to qualify by taking a geography test in their Social Studies classes. After seven rounds of competition with all thirty competitors, students were eliminated until 10 finalists remained. Each finalist competed in several more rounds before a champion emerged.

The school champion will now take a written exam, which will be submitted to the National Geographic Society, in hopes of qualifying for the New York State Geography Bee to be held at the New York State Museum in March. Winners to the state bee advance to the national competition in Washington, D.C.
