Nominating petition to run for GCSD Board of Education due April 22

Candidates wishing to seek election to the Guilderland Central School District Board of Education must submit a nominating petition, which can be obtained by emailing the District Clerk at livingstonl@guilderlandschools.net.

Three seats are up for election on May 21, 2024.

As a result of the resignation of GCSD Board President Dr. Seema Rivera, who was elected to the New York State Board of Regents, one term will begin on May 22, 2024 and end of June 30, 2027. This seat will be filled by the candidate who receives the highest number of votes and who is not an incumbent GCSD board of education member.

The two remaining seats will be filled by the two candidates, regardless of whether or not they are incumbents, who receive the next two highest vote totals; their terms carry a three-year term beginning on July 1, 2024.

Nominating petitions require 43 signatures of qualified district voters to run. They must be submitted to the District Clerk no later than April 22, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Candidates must also complete and submit a Board of Education Candidate Profile form.

To run for the school board, candidates must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, a qualified voter in the school district and be able to read and write. They must also be residents of the school district continuously for one year prior to the vote date.
