Dear Families and Friends,
The month of April typically signifies a shift toward the end of the school year. We find ourselves busily occupied with student placement decisions and the administration of our annual New York State assessments in third, fourth and fifth grade. While much attention has been given to the latter through local media outlets and social network sites, it is important to remember that these assessments remain a single measure of student performance in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics.
It is widely known that rigorous tests will not improve character development, social-emotional skills or the ability to work in a cooperative group; only high quality instruction can accomplish these important educational objectives. Our classroom teachers have spent several hours preparing students for these exams while recognizing and reinforcing the necessary attributes noted above. We remain confident that each child is well prepared to perform their personal best each and every school day.

Our district-wide Elementary Art Exhibit will be held at the Guilderland Public Library from March 27 – April 30, 2019. Please join us at our opening reception on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 3:30 – 5 p.m. in the library’s Helderberg Room as we celebrate the Elementary Art Program.

Tips for Parents from the Health Office
Unfortunately, illness is a part of childhood! This is especially true during this time of year! It has been peak illness time at Pine Bush and everywhere in general. Sometimes as a parent it’s hard to know when your child is sick enough to stay home. Please keep the following guidelines in mind:
· Your child must be fever free for 24 hours, without the aid of fever reducing medicines such as Advil or Tylenol.
· If your child has vomited in the past 24 hours, please keep him/her home.
· If your child has had diarrhea in the past 24 hours, please keep him/her home.
· If your child was diagnosed with Strep throat, he/she must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.
· If your child has a bad cold, with a very runny rose or bad cough, especially if it has kept the child awake for prolonged times at night please keep him/her home.
· If your child has a rash of unknown origin, please have it evaluated by his/her Physician before returning to school.
· If your child has redness in his/her eyes with eye drainage in the morning please keep him/her home and consult your Physician before returning to school.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
